UMTS/HSDPA

(UMTS) Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (HSDPA) High-Speed Downlink Packet Access
HSDPA provides high speed data access along with allowing a person to use both voice and data simultaneously. This technology is only available from AT&T in the US and covers most major metropolitan areas.
Expected Data speed: ~100 to ~600 kbps. Outside of major metropolitan areas speeds will significantly decrease.

EVDO

(EVDO) Evolution, Data Optimized
Similar to HSDPA, EVDO is more widespread high speed data solution which is available by both Verizon and Sprint within the US.
Expected Data speeds: 400-600 kbps. Outside of major metropolitan areas speeds will decrease but coverage is more widespread then HSDPA.
