  • Announcements (15 mins.)
  • Brainstorm possible projects & prioritize for big picture . (20 mins.)
  • Revisit Reference Vision (Lisa); ) (30 mins.)?
    • Homework for group: go over the document again.
    • Continue the discussion about where we fall short;.
    • Take a serious look again at the vision itself and how to update it for 2008.

...

Possible meeting topics for the future:

  • Instruction assessment pilot discussion -- how to play that out for long-term sustainability (Jan/Feb -- Angie, Mark, Lisa )
  • Assess whether people are watching videos and find them useful?  Improve the live capture in DIRC: ok to have short shelf life; things we can do to improve quality?  Low cost?  Link to them in more locations?  Statistics?
  • Lisa shows us how to use Zoomerang.discuss organizing a library wide system of sharing information learned at meetings / conferences
  • updating the instruction toolkit (http://libstaff.mit.edu/instruction/toolkit/bibliography.html)
  • Ask Us Page - currently, the information is presented in terms of how the user wants to get in touch with us.  Should we revise this so that emphasis is on subject selector page?
  • Spring Seminar Planning -- Consider having a philosophical discussion related to instruction; base on work instruction assessment team began? (Lisa, Mark, Angie)
  • Reference Statistics Tool - reconsider stats in terms of sampling, in terms of tool that Sands might create. Lisa needs to follow up with Mackenzie/Steve.
  • Establish list that lays out ownership of certain projects (virtual reference pages, instruction pages, wiki, etc)

DONE!

September 2008

yes

Select IAP coordinator team

Remlee will put out call; Angie will help write call and make sure new team has wisdom from previous years

in process

Review & maintain video tutorials

Discuss in Sept. 2008

yes

Think more broadly about reference (and instruction) in general & where are we in the Reference Vision plan?
Already talked about what was and what have now; next steps write new vision for future; instruction assessment group talked about doing something similar with instruction; should RISG keep as separate streams or collapse together; "reference" vision actually "public service" vision.

Plan Spring Seminar (brainstorm topic (.  Brainstorm research and instruction-related )topic, find someone to do it, figure out if it will cost money); for . For staff development.

Heather & Lisa H. (will bring in ideas from instruction assessment)

beginning is  done; project ongoing

Fall 2008

next year after we have more survey results

Work to promote user awareness of research guides, maybe with CFG, as described in assessment project plan for 2007-2010.
use user awareness survey info

Video tutorials assessment - we'll have the analysis back from Patty at some point in the spring.  Have pilot assessments, but then what? Report written by Patty and Darcy; RISG is supposed to continue to evaluate?; writing in annual reports - no one included; Should there be a rotating "video coordinator" position in RISG? Angie already does for many things; Darcy oversees technical side - Angie and Darcy have been coordinating; only data collected is from Google Analytics.  Sitting in awareness, satisfaction, importance space. Should it be up to instruction coordinators to report out on? Where is steve getting numbers from?

Angie, Georgiana

Fall 2008-June 2008

Consider sampling system for stats. Check with Steve/Nina/Sands about using same coding from instruction statistics form for reference (at and away from desk statistics).  Lisa will talk to Steve about using GIS stat webform as example.

Lisa H. leads, with Heather, Remlee, Lisa S., Bill?

By beginning of Fall 2008; will talk about Fall 08 results in Jan/Feb but continue pilot for 1 year

Pilot assessment of student learning. We need to have something in place by the beginning of the next academic year. (will be informed by IAP instruction assessment survey data)

Angie will lead with Mark & Lisa H

Start Sept. 2008; revision will be complete Jan. 2009; instruction plan timeline determines dates

Instruction Toolkit - think about when and who? The project plan (implementation of instruction plan) will address this, so we'll need to think about what is realistic. Nicole created a wikispace but it's not populated yet; linked from RISG wiki under projects and documents.  Can start with existing instruction toolkit on wiki. http://libstaff.mit.edu/instruction/toolkit/bibliography.html

LibGuides vs subject guides assessment: assess

* new

libguides vs subject guides assessment  assessing research guides; some subject guides were just a listing of things from vera Vera, but many were much more extensive; make clear that subject guide doesn't have to look like database listing; make sure subject guide person knows they can control link from main library page to real subject guide and then link to libguide LibGuide from subject guide

an ideal, not required

Think about how we could facilitate sharing what is learned at conferences and other events with colleagues. Is this feasible or even desirable to do?

required - set a date within FY09

Think more broadly about Barton Basics changes and enhancements in light of the new world of searching (Vera Multi-Search, WorldCat Local).
videos; info navigator; barton basics; videos are not accessible to everyone - so can't get rid of barton basics and info navigator; duplication and out of date data - project to update and collapse and coordinate with videos; patty durisin could be interested in working on (already very familiar with all 3); info navigator and barton basics linked off main library page; anita - suggest to keep info navigator as separate discrete tool from barton basics but there is a lot of updating required; should it be converted to libguides? - a lot of images (which tend to go out of date) - once link it to videos can images be eliminated?

required, but maybe lower priority than some others?
