Notes by Lisa Sweeney

Meeting with Boston Photo Imaging in Rotch Library

Present: Jennifer Friedman, Lisa Sweeney, Beverly Turner, and 2 reps from BPI

T&P series

  • 308 sheets (all 24x36), all to be scanned as greyscale at 300 dpi - Steve from BPI assured us that this will capture all details (including fading parts on the diazo prints) without unnecessarily increasing file size
  • estimated hard drive size needed for data transfer = 500 GB (formatted as FAT32 so its easy to transfer between MAC and Windows)
  • BPI will take the entire series to their workshop in Back Bay when MIT gets the ok for any copyright issues. all maps will be scannd in the same setup, at the same size; setup, scanning (photographing from above), and quality control checking will all be done in about 1 weeks time. MIT does not need derivatives for this project.

other Boston maps

  • will be of different colors, scale, size, and locations
  • copyright needs to be checked for each map selected
  • BPI would like more information about
    • desired file names to be used
    • list of number of maps larger than 40x50 (will have to be shot in 2 pieces)
    • if any maps need to be captured on more than 1 side

follow up

  • Jennifer and Drew (and Lisa) will work on getting the 'other boston maps' information together
  • Beverly will get more information and get back to Jennifer and Lisa about project planning and budgeting
