FutureBOSTON is an "IdeaJAMTM" that uses the power of the Web to build a city -- an experiment to see how far collaborators can go in a six-week period to make Boston a better, cooler place; framing concepts, generating models, arguing impacts, and posting their ideas online. Although FutureBOSTON is focused (to start with) in three major challenge areas: Health and Healthcare, City Design and Environmental Sustainability - you can take FutureBOSTON anywhere you want it to go; just play safely.
The FutureBOSTON challenges are:
- eHealth- The exploration of "eHealth" communications over a wireless networks and how it might better support improved health in a community from a consumer's perspective, lowering costs, improving care and making the delivery of medical service more transparent
- City Design - The creation of new land use proposals in a city district that would allow an unsupervised child to play in safety, shaped by the advent of mixed-use zoning, densification to the standard of Vancouver, major commercial retail, green construction methods, multi-mode transportation and advanced sensor technologies
- Environmental Sustainability - The search for the net-zero emission city of the future, incorporating co-generation, conservation, alternative fuels and new energy technology to create energy independence
"Talent is the world's natural resource," said Tom Piper, Executive Director of FutureBOSTON and a Senior Research Scientist at MIT. "FutureBOSTON is about engaging this talent worldwide in new ways over the web to help create a world class city that continues to attract and retain world class people."
FutureBOSTON is powered by Zude - a new social networking software that allows anyone anywhere to build Boston in their own image.
