a crystalline structure is the process and place of exchange enacted between the actual and virtual. in relation to the image the crystal concept is the production and apprehension of time. a crystal image involves a multi-layered and infinite register of montaged realities. the crystal image is a philosophical mechanism that is illustrative of concept production.

Crystal Structure Wiki will function as a research archive and a tool for collaboration to continue to investigate notions of time, perception, recollection, images, ownership, parasocial interaction, the actual, and the virtual.

The indiscernibility of the real and the imaginary or of the present and the past, of the actual and the virtual, is definitely not produced in the head or the mind, it is the objective characteristic of certain existing images which are by nature double.

Crystal Structure will exist as the actual and the virtual, an archive of the past as well as a structure web-archive-as-crystal that is in a constant state of production. In this way, it exists as a metaphor for time and an embodiment of the structure of crystals, as well as archive.

This collaborative, living archive will be constructed between, Amanda Moore, from Stuttgart, Germany and Wayne Stokes, from Boston, MA. Using this interface for communication, interaction, and research, this archive will be a repository for video, performance documentation, photographs, drawing, shared resources and literature. The project begins June 2, 2010, with each artist producing an interpretive work based on the other’s most recent project. Reflective of the structure of crystals and of notions of time and duration, our contributions to the archive will consist of perpetual reinterpretations of each other’s actions and submissions. As a medium for communication, this interface will be used for initiating reactive performances and projects through written instruction and sharing experiential responses to these activities. Through representation, interpretation, and reinterpretation the origin/author can become obfuscated enabling the work produced to transcend its potentialTthe complexity of contemporary authenticity and authorship is played out through continual representation and reinterpretation.
