Goals for this year:
1. Get the tech support staffing help that we need for the web
Holding place for future items: (not priorities this year)
2. Do micro usability tests or user research related to specific projects, as needed and apply the results.
3. Analyze and apply existing data about our users:
a. persona creation (Darcy, Remlee, Lisa)
b. survey data (whole group retreat in August)
c. understand, analyze and use web analytics from Google
d. do heuristic tests of web interfaces, as needed
4. Prioritize and complete the projects we've agreed to take on
(insert long list of web projects here, Darcy and Nicole working on this)
5. Contintue to find ways to reach out to the rest of our organization and bring user needs into everything
a. clarify UX role in public space & Stephanie's role (Steering Committee)
b. find best ways to communicate to MIT Libraries staff about what we're doing, what we can provide, what we've learned about users (such as What's up with UX events or other ways)
c. offer "writing for the web" workshops 1-2 times per year (for library staff)
d. find better ways to track and display our projects and priorities... use this list to continue to communicate with LC, Steering Committee, and RISLT about what we're working on
6. Find more ways to help our organization innovate
a. make the betas program more sustainable, explore ways to get more betas in the pipeline, do more regular assessment and graduating/graveyarding
b. find ways to bring the idea seeds from last year's game-storming into our work
7. Collaborations, our own training, professional development
a. UX members continue participating in organizations, such as UPA Boston, CodeAcademy, LITA, Anthro-lib, etc.
b. continuing keeping ourselves up to date and trained in these areas: heuristic testing, usability studies, information architecture, etc.
Off the priority list for this year (might still be someone's personal goal)
- standardize processes for new web sites (already doing this as a matter of course)
- improve our documentation
- explore a better tool for Tell Us
- develop a storage container for stories, comments, flip charts that all staff can use
- continue "what's up with UX" events (maybe, but could find other ways to communicate with staff)
- continue Emerging Tech subgroup (find other ways to accomplish this in 6a above)
- research possible roles for libraries in online education like MITx, EdX
- communicate with our users about the results of the studies and survey
- form a UX tribe- improve our documentation
- standardize process for new web sites
