Palm OS devices have been popular at MIT. However, the future of the OS is uncertain as Palm OS had been virtually at a stand-still since 2004 with the exception of minor updates. Most industry experts believe that the Palm OS will phase out over the next couple of years. Users considering purchasing new mobile devices is advised to seek alternate devices such as Windows Mobile devices. |

In February 2007, Microsoft release Windows Mobile 6 Professional (which will replace Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC). Some of the older devices may be upgradable to Windows Mobile 6 Professional via the carrier. |
