The Documentation Theme adds a re-sizable pane to the left side of each page in the space. Usually featuring the page tree macro, the pane can also display customized content (like a search box), usually with the intent to make it easy to navigate through the Confluence space. It also provides an easy method to attach a header and/or footer to each page in the space, making it easy to post important messages to viewers. While the Documentation theme is the recommended replacement for Left Nav, it is not an exact replacement.   In fact, customization of options in the left-side navigation bar is severely limited with the new theme.  If you have a significant amount of customization in your left navigation panel, we encourage you to review the documentation provided by Atlassian (e.g.,  http://confluence.atlassian.com/x/kQq6D) to make an informed decision about your space theme. You can change your theme at any time.
