Sonnets
In 2013, the Ensemble began the tradition of selling sonnet performances for Valentine's Day.
Performers
Each performer should memorize at least one sonnet and be able to perform at least one other on book on short notice.
Performers should wear Shakespearean attire, preferably including silly hats.
Other ensemble members should be available to accompany performers (in costume or in street clothes that preferably include Ensemble attire).
Sonnet Choices
The sonnets performed in 2013 were XVIII, LV, LXXV, CVI, and CXXX. Other sonnets under consideration were XVII, XXXIX, XLVI, and XLVII. Sonnet suggested for future consideration are CXXXV and CXLI.
Assignments should be arranged such that all sonnets are available at most times and most sonnets are available at all other times.
Short "layman's terms" summaries should be available for people to look at while purchasing.
Sales
Booth for sonnet sales should be scheduled as far in advance as possible because the space in the student center fills up fast and someone decided that the week of Valentine's Day was a great time to put an exhibit in Lobby 10. Booth should be run the way it normally is for shows, with two people per shift and an officer of the day not needed unless booth is outside of the student center.
The Ensemble booth poster should be decorated with pink flowers and sonnet posters and big signs saying "Valentine's Sonnets" and "Send a Sonnet".
The order form (2013 version will be attached at some point, if it isn't, ask Brian Remlinger) should include all the terms of the performances, as well as space to indicate sonnet preferences, and time/location preferences. Sonnets may be performed in classes, at designated locations, or at dorms. Large lecture classes should be avoided if possible unless the performer is very comfortable with it. If a professor does not want a sonnet performed, come back at the end of the class or choose the next priority location.
