You may consider employing in this microphone for small-scale/DIY projects for the Center, including but not limited to:

...

  1. Plug the microphone into an available USB-A port. You may need an adapter; check AV closet in 9-338 if so.
  2. Open system preferences and select the Sound icon.
  3. Click the Input tab and select Blue Yeti.
  4. If you want to use the microphone as a playback device, click the Output tab and select Yeti. From this screen, set the output volume to 100%. In order to hear the audio, you will need to connect a pair of wired headphones or earbuds (3.5 mm) to the circular port at the bottom of the microphone.
  5. After the set-up process has been completed, configure your recording software to use this device if necessary. In Audacity, this can be done with the Audio Setup button.

Functions

Directly below the Blue logo is a mute button. Toggle the mute by pressing this button once. When muted, volume, patterns, gain.the LED light will flash.

Below the mute button controls the headphone volume, should you have headphones plugged in.

On the back of the microphone is a gain knob, which controls the "volume" of the sound being recorded. In most cases, this knob should be kept at its lowest setting (turned all the way to the left). If the gain is too high, the recorded audio will sound distorted. Remember, audio can always be made louder in post-production.

Finally, below the gain knob is a pattern knob. This allows you to choose between four different polar patterns that change what exactly is being recorded. See the following section to learn more about polar patterns.

Recording tips

If possible, record in a quiet space with only the people involved in the audio recording.

Position the microphone so that the Blue logo and headphone volume knob are facing you. This microphone is side-speaking, meaning you should speak into the side with the blue logo facing the audio source (e.g., your mouth). Do not speak into the top of the microphone.
