2 February 2014 - We have modified these conventions as discussed i group meeting.  This page will be edited, but in the mean time, please consult Sebastien or Ky before using these conventions.

Our convention for storing and labeling your work is as follows:

Everyone's prefix is composed of their initials.  For example, Ramez Danial's prefix is rd (lowercase).

Wiki MarkupMinipreps = \ [PREFIX\]M\[#\].  For  For example, rdM1, rdM2, rdM3unmigrated-wiki-markup

Gel Preps = \ [PREFIX\]G\[#\].  For  For example, rdG1, rdG2, rdG3unmigrated-wiki-markup

Restriction Digests = \ [PREFIX\]R\[#\].  For  For example, rdR1, rd2, rdR3unmigrated-wiki-markup

Frozen Bacteria = \ [PREFIX\]F\[#\].  For  For example, rdF1, rdF2, rdF3.unmigrated-wiki-markup

Frozen Yeast = \ [PREFIX\]Y\[#\].  For  For example, rdY1, rdY2, rdY3.

See attached spreadsheet for how I like to keep track of my cell stocks.

I suggest maintaining multiple backups of your work to insure against catastrophies:

1) Store a frozen stock in the -80C. This can be done by adding 345 uL of 80% glycerol + 1.5 mL of healthy cell stock (preferably in late log phase but early stationary phase or overnight is usually OK).

2) Store a miniprepped version of the plasmid from the frozen stock in the -20C.
