Leader (LDR)Type Type or Record (LDR/06)

BLvl Bibliographic Level (LDR/07)

Ctrl Type of Control (LDR/08)
          blank---No specific type

006 Additional Material Characteristics

– 006 is to be used if the item is accompanied by material of a different format. Or it is used to code characteristics of item not encoded in the Fixed Field.
– The whole field contains 18 characters (00-17). OCLC Connexion Client bib record shows the spaces/characters without any codes as blanks.
– For example
: Colored maps on CD-ROM
        006 m--------c-f------
        007 a $b j $d c $e a $f n $g z $h n
        300 1 CD-ROM : $b col. ; $c 4 ¾ in.

The “---“ in the above example actually are shown as blank spaces in OCLC bib record. Even after “f” there are 6 more blank spaces before getting to the end of the field. If these blank spaces are not entered, . Validation will fail and update of the bib cannot be completed.
