h2. Navigating the Gradebook
Use the tabs at the top of the 'Gradebook' homepage to navigate the various sections and functions of the gradebook.

The Dashboard is the landing page for the Gradebook and displays which assignments require grading, approving of grades, and which assignments have been completely graded and approved.

+NEEDS GRADING+ \- Lists assignments/exams that have no grades assigned or have grades that are overdue. Click the assignment/exam title to jump to the grading table where you can finalize outstanding scores.
+NEEDS APPROVING+ \- Lists assignments/exams that have grades entered but not yet approved. Click the assignment/exam title to jump to the grading table where you can approve grades that are ready to be finalized.
+ALL DONE+ \- Lists assignments/exams that have been graded, approved, and released to students. Click the assignment/exam title to jump to the grading table where you can view all released grades.

h5. The Download Dropdown Menu
The 'Download' dropdown menu allows you to export various portions of the Gradebook:
* +ROSTER XLS / CSV+\- Downloads the *STUDENTS* page in either XLS or CSV format. This includes student's names, username, MIT ID, Section, letter grade, cumulative grade, and the grades for each assignment.
* +ROSTER XLS with makeup grades+\- Downloads the STUDENTS page in XLS format. This includes student's names, username, MIT ID, Section, letter grade, cumulative grade, the ACTUAL GRADE, ORIGINAL GRADE AND MAKEUP GRADE for each assignment.{color}
* +ASSIGNMENTS XLS+\- Downloads the *ASSIGNMENTS* page in XLS format. This includes the title, short name, due date, max points, whether the assignment is accessible to graders, and whether it has been removed.
* +LETTER GRADES XLS+\- Exports the *LETTER GRADES* page in XLS format. This includes student's names, username, MIT ID, Section, letter grade, cumulative grade, and whether the grades have been approved.
* +GRADE HISTORY XLS+\- Downloads the grade history in XLS format. This includes the assignment, student name, student username, student's MIT ID, the date, the grader's name, the grader's username, the grader's role, the grade type, and the actual grade.
h5. The Import Dropdown Menu
The 'Import' menu allows you to import various portions of the Gradebook:
* +Import Excel+ \- You can upload assignments, letter grades, the complete grade history, and the student roster here.
_Note: When importing an excel sheet into the gradebook, you must use the same file you exported - you cannot copy and paste the data into another spreadsheet. There is hidden information contained within the exported spreadsheet that is required for the file to be recognized by the gradebook._

Select *STUDENTS* to display the *STUDENT/GRADE LIST* where Instructors/Graders can get an overall view of the course grades. The *STUDENT/GRADE LIST* is maintained in a table format and the column headings will vary according to how the Gradebook is configured. Instructors/Graders can modify scores and Letter Grades for an assignment/exam by selecting a Student's name.

* The *STUDENT/GRADE LIST* data can be sorted by clicking the column heading. The Up arrow is ascending order and the down arrow is descending. To sort across multiple columns, hold down the SHIFT key and select two or more columns.
* Columns are sorted alphabetically by default.
** The name, section, letter grade, and cumulative score columns are static, while the assignment columns are dynamic.

h5. The Student / Grade List
The *STUDENT/GRADE LIST* details:
* The name of each Student enrolled in the course. Point your cursor on a Student name to display a Tooltip for the Student's email address.
* The *SECTION* of each student.
* The score for each course assignment/exam. Each Assignment/exam has its own column in the *STUDENT/GRADE LIST*. Use the scroll bar at the bottom of the form to see all columns. The assignment/exam column name is acquired from the *SHORT NAME* field on the *ADD/IMPORT ASSIGNMENT* form.
* The final Letter Grade issued for the course.
* Each Student's Cumulative and Weighted (optional) averages for each assignment.
* The total number of submissions per assignment/exam and the Class Average.

h5. The Grade Summary Page
Select a Student name to jump to the *GRADE SUMMARY* page for the Student. The *GRADE SUMMARY* page is where Instructor/Graders can:
* View all of the assignments/exams for the Student.
* Enter scores in the *POINTS* column for each assignment/exam
* Approve scores for each assignment/exam.
* View/Hide the Grade History.
* View the maximum points and weighted percentage for each assignment/exam.
* Add a Makeup Grade.
* View the Student's profile or enter a text comment at the bottom of the page.
* Select an assignment/exam link and jump to the course *SUMMARY/GRADING TABLE* for individual assignments.

h5. Student Grade Summary Form
The *GRADE SUMMARY* form is where Instructors/Graders can get an overview of each Student's performance by assignment/exam. The form details all of the assignment/exams for an individual Student. Select a Student name on the *STUDENT/GRADE LIST* to jump to the *STUDENT GRADE SUMMARY* form. The top of the *STUDENT GRADE SUMMARY* displays a students name, MIT ID, and section.
Access the *STUDENT GRADE SUMMARY* form to:
* Enter or modify assignment Points/Scores.
* View/Hide the Grade History.
* Assign a Makeup Grade.
* Assign a Letter Grade for the course.
* Approve make-up and original grades.
* Enter a letter grade.
* View a photo of the Student (if available).
* Add a Student comment.

Click *ASSIGNMENTS* to jump to the *ASSIGNMENTS/EXAMS* form. The *ASSIGNMENTS/EXAMS* form displays all added course assignments/exams. The form information will vary according to the Configuration options enabled by the Instructor.

+TITLE+ \- Lists each assignment/exam for the course. Assignments/exams that have been deleted will appear at the top of this list with a *RESTORE* link next to the deleted assignment/exam.
* Click on a *TITLE* to jump to the *SUMMARY/GRADING TABLE* form for the assignment/exam. Use this form to edit and delete assignment/exam properties, and to enter or change scores for the assignment/exam. See *THE ASSIGNMENT SUMMARY/GRADING* *TABLE FORM* for information on how to enter or modify assignment points, assign a makeup grade, and edit/delete assignment/exam properties.
+EXCEL+ \- This is the option to export the assignment information to an XLS file in an excel spreadsheet. The down arrow is for exporting an XLS file; the up arrow is for importing an XLS file. This includes the title, short name, due date, max points, whether the assignment is accessible to graders, and whether it has been removed.

* The exported spreadsheet of an assignment has expandable and collapsible columns and rows. Clicking on the !excel_plus.jpg! at the top of the Excel sheet displays the original and make-up grades for each student.
* The !excel_plus.jpg! on the side of the spreadsheet displays dropped students. Here are examples of expanded and collapsed rows and columns:

+GRAPH+ \- Select a *GRAPH* icon to jump to the *GRADING SUMMARY* page.
+DUE DATE+ \- The date each assignment is due. The *DUE DATE* is established when the assignment is created on the *ADD/EDIT ASSIGNMENT* form.
+MAXIMUM POINTS+ \- The maximum points that can be earned for each assignment/exam. The fields in this column can be edited. When edited, the input field changes to yellow. Press either Enter, or the 'Save Changes' button, to save your changes and update the total Maximum Points number. This column is sortable.
+CLASS AVERAGE+ \- The class average for the assignment/exam. The *CLASS AVERAGE* column cannot be edited.
+WEIGHT+ \- (Optional) This column is only shown when the Gradebook is configured for weighted scores. The fields in this column can be edited. When edited, the input field changes to yellow. Press either Enter, or the 'Save Changes' button, to save your changes and update the total weighted score percent. This column is sortable.

h5. [The Assignment Summary/Grading Table Form|Grade Summary Assignment Page]
Here you can:
* Enter or modify assignment scores/points
* Assign a Makeup Grade
* Edit/delete assignment/exam properties
+SUMMARY/GRADING TABLE FORM+ /- details the Student roster where grade information is entered and maintained for an assignment/exam. Use the Back and Forward arrows to scroll through each assignment/exam.
* *SUMMARY* portion of the form can be edited using the *EDIT ASSIGNMENT/EXAM* form. The assignment/exam can also be deleted unless a grade/score is issued to any Student in the course.
_Note: The *DELETE* button is unavailable once a score has been assigned to any student in the course._
* The *GRADING TABLE* portion of the form shows the name of each Student, the *SECTION* each Student is assigned to, (if Sections were created for the assignment), the grade *HISTORY* icon, the *POINTS*, the *ADD MAKEUP GRADE* icon, and whether the grade is approved or not.
+[SHOW / HIDE GRADE HISTORY|Grading#Grade History]+ \- Click !gradehistorybutton.jpg! to toggle a drop-down overlay of the changes that have been made to a Student's letter grade. The [*HISTORY*|Displaying a Grade's History] drop-down tells you the current letter grade, the date and time it was entered, the action - Create (new, not approved), Change (edit, not approved), Original, Makeup or Approve (final); the grader's name, and the role of the grader.
+POINTS+ \- Enter the Point value (score) of the grade for each Student. Click Update to enter or modify an individual score. Click !approve.jpg! to finalize an individual score. Once a score is approved, Students can see their score for the assignment/exam.
+ADD MAKEUP GRADE+ \- Click !makeup1.jpg! to issue a Makeup Grade for an assignment/exam. Both the original Grade and the Makeup Grade may be maintained in Stellar, however, the Grade must be approved before Students can see it. When a Makeup Grade is entered, the *ADD MAKEUP GRADE* icon becomes !makeup2.jpg! to indicate that the points shown are for a Makeup Grade. The Makeup grade field will auto-populate the Actual grade field. The Makeup grade is the final grade for an assignment/exam.
+GRADE STATUS+ \- Displays the current status of each score entered in the *POINTS* column. Click 'Approve' to finalize an individual score for the assignment/exam. Click 'Approve All' to finalize all entered scores in the *POINTS* column
