Introduction

MIT uses Zoom Phone for its voice infrastructure. With Zoom Phone, you get assigned a 10-digit phone number that you can use to make and receive calls like you would with any other phone number. Calls are placed and received within the Zoom Desktop App, the Zoom Mobile App, or a physical desk phone. You can also forward calls to your personal cell phone number.

Features

  • You get an MIT phone number, eliminating the need to share your personal phone number with colleagues.
  • Make outbound calls to a regular phone number from your Zoom Meeting and add them to the meeting. They will appear as another participant (without video). This is great for dealing with support issues, or when you need to get a company on the line with the other meeting participants.
  • Forward calls to a personal cell phone number. Forwarded calls will display your MIT phone number on your personal device's caller ID
  • Configure separate call handling rules for Business hours, Closed Hours, and Holidays
  • Voicemail to Email service.
  • SMS Text Messaging (not available yet, expected Summer 2023)

Tips/Tricks

  • Dial the last 5 digits of any MIT phone number to reach that extension (instead of dialing the full 10 digits)
