Cellular Protocol

1

UMTS/HSDPA

(UMTS) Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (HSDPA) High-Speed Downlink Packet Access
HSDPA provides high speed data access, and allows a person to use both voice and data simultaneously.
This technology is only available from AT&T in the US and covers most major metropolitan areas.

Expected Data speed: ~100 to ~600 kbps. Outside of major metropolitan areas speeds will significantly decrease.

2

EVDO

(EVDO) Evolution, Data Optimized
Similar to HSDPA, EVDO is more refined and widespread high speed data solution which is available by
both Verizon and Sprint within the US.

Expected Data speeds: 400-600 kbps. Outside of major metropolitan areas speeds will decrease but coverage
is more widespread then HSDPA.

Recent as of 29NOV2007.

Migration from old iPhone to iPhone 3G

  • iPhone EDGE > iPhone 3G
    • Erase data on the old device. Apple recommends that the old device be upgraded with iPhone 2.0 software. Once the iPhone has been upgraded to iPhone 2.0 software, perform Erase All Content and Settings. This process will take approximately 1 hour for 8GB iPhone and should completely wipe the data off the old iPhone.
