MIT can set up shared mailboxes for groups of users who need to send & receive mail from an email address. The email address must be 3-8 characters in length.

...

Note that shared mailboxes only work with Outlook clients and office.com.

Setup Instructions

  1. Go to https://ist.mit.edu/guest-accounts
  2. Click Invite Sponsored Guest
  3. Use the following information
    1. Cost Object: 1562100 (CRE HQ)
    2. Department: Center for Real Estate
    3. Date of Birth: You can just use today's date
    4. External Organization: Put the shared mailbox name... e.g. CRE Alumni
    5. Email: doesn't matter? Note: I entered an invalid email address and this worked fine. Need to change this away from tcl@mit.edu since that's actually taken. Should probably use cre-itaccounts@mit.edu
    6. Phone Number: Use CRE main number or the lab's number
    7. Reason for access: This is to be converted into a shared mailbox account.
    8. Is the guest being paid by MIT directly?: No
    9. Physical campus access required: No
  4. Click submit

...

Submit a ticket to IS&T and request that this be converted into a Shared Mailbox account.
