Kickoff Meeting

Schedule: Agreed to meet once a month (90 minutes) - Greg will work with the N42 Site Team to schedule next meeting (and through the year).

Topics raised today - and updates where available:

• Fiber to off-campus FSILGs
  Chris will get an update on progress and report back to the list.
• Wireless roaming around campus
  A planning and staging issue; router updates and potentially need for additional fiber.
• Athena - short-mid-long term
  Where is Athena heading? This is a hold-over topic from last year. Conversations can be divided into: Deployments and Environment (including AFS). - Needs to be scheduled and planned for an upcoming meeting (perhaps one meeting devoted to all Academic Computing topics).
• Printing
  Separated out from the Athena topic - network printing. - Future agenda topic
• Zephyr - > Jabber for IM services
  Jon Reed gave an update - see project plan.
• Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) / policy issues
  To be scheduled as agenda item - Tim McGovern to lead
• FSILGs internal networking consulting
  As FSILGs upgrade internal infrastructure, how to contact IS&T for consultation and assistant - send email to ilgnet-help@mit.edu. Also general information on home wireless will be coordinated by Oliver/Stuart
• New phone plan / VOIP
  Schedule on agenda - Integrated Communications Project & Telephony Services.
• Grad Students - Microsoft Campus Agreement for XP
  Jon Hunt to coordinate the agenda topic
• iCampus (student projects in general)
  How to identify them, select and move into operations.
• Back-to-school/orientation activities in IS&T
  How well did they work this year - upgrades/suggestions
• IS&T web site
  Redesign is underway - student reaction/use of IS&T web pages.
