Guideline For Teachers
Format
Lasts 2 hour, Asking for 20 participants, but currently only 5 are registered.

First 50 minutes play fishing game- guidelines for teaching are below, the game will be run with the aid of a spreadsheet and a projection screen.
Then discussion about how the game relates to the actual ocean crisis, what they can do to help, pass out brochures, talk about museum exhibit.

Setup

  1. Make table on board to record how many boats are placed n each area during each round (port, seashore, or deep sea).
  2. Make sure that computer with spreadsheet is ready to run game and project
  3. The objective of the game for the students is to be the most successful fishing company.

Rules

  1. The game should last approximately 10 rounds, but the studets should no know this ahead of time.
  2. Teams can order boats from the shipyard at the beginning of each round. These ships will be available for use starting the next round. The price is listed in the spreadsheet.
  3. During each round the teams decide where to place their ships (port, seashore, or deep sea) and fish there. There is a cost associated with each of these decisions, this cost is defined
  4. After the teams place their ships, they are allowed to talk to each other about the state of the fishery and trading ships. These discussions should be encouraged.
  5. At the end of each round, 1 boat should be sold to the teams via action.
  6. Teams will start with 2 boats
