Computer Prototype

Scenario

The scenario for Teleport is described in detail in GR2 - Initial Designs.

System / Software Requirements

The prototype is known to work on recent versions of Webkit browsers (Google Chrome, Safari) on Mac OSX.

For "Teleport Me" function to work, the Google Earth Browser Plugin must be installed. (If the plugin is not found, the user will be prompted).

For "Video Chat" to work properly, your browser must support HTML5 and a webcam/microphone must be installed.

Using the Prototype

Start the prototype by following this URL: Teleport

The prototype should display well for a wide range of screen resolutions.

Limitations

  • All data (tweet streams, contacts, notification history) is canned
  • Location of "Teleport Me" fixed to MIT.
  • In order to use the keyboard controls for first-person "Teleport Me" navigator, the user must first focus the mouse on the map's container by clicking it.
  • Video chat is functional, but requests to initiate chat conversation must be sent manually by sharing the page's URL (e.g. via email) with your contact.
  • Text chat is non-functional.
