Branching
Branching can be used to include or exclude questions based on the responses of respondents.
There are two types of branching, include branching and exclude branching.
Include Branching
Branching type where all questions are initially included in the survey, and where questions are filtered out (excluded), depending on a respondents' answers. This is the default branching type.
Exclude Branching
Branching type where questions can be initially excluded from the survey, and where excluded questions are included in the survey depending on a respondents' answers.
Directions to Change Branching Type
- Click on the 'Questions' link.
- Select 'Branching' from the navigation bar.
- Go to 'Change Branching Type' and then select 'Include Branching' or 'Exclude Branching'
- Click 'Save'.
Filtered Questions - The questions you want to include / exclude.
Conditional Questions - A respondent's answer to these questions determines whether the filtered questions will be included or excluded in the survey.
Directions to Setup Include Branching
- Click on the 'Questions' link.
- Separate the questions you wish to include with a page break. These are the filtered questions.
The question(s) you wish to include must be on a separate page from the rest of the survey. See Working with Page Breaks.

Select 'Branching' from the navigation bar.
- Make sure include branching is the selected branching type. See the 'Directions to Change Branching Type' above.
- Select the question you want to add a condition to. Questions will be included in the survey based on respondents answers to conditional question(s).

On the 'New Condition' page:
- Name the Condition
- Select which answers to the conditional question will lead to the inclusion of the filtered questions.
- Choose whether respondents must select one answer from the conditional question or no answer to have the filtered questions included.
- Select which filtered questions to be included. All questions in a separate section from the conditional question are listed as possible filtered questions.
- Click 'Save'.
- Click 'Ok'.
- The branching now appears under the conditional question on the 'Branching' page.
Make sure to check that your branching works before sending out your survey. Use the Preview Survey link to test.

Directions to Remove a Branching Condition
- Click on the 'Questions' link.
- Select 'Branching' from the navigation bar.
- Select the 'X' next to the branching condition you would like to remove.
- Click 'Ok'.
