The cryostat is an air-tight cylindrical container that can be pumped free of air and refrigerated to cryogenic temperatures. Since the broadband feeds in VGOS systems need to be in the cryostat, a transparent window is required to allow RF signals to penetrate the cryostat and reach the feed.
