Core ideas Three elements are key for this type of learning. We want to design learning experiences that enable and support all three parts of the process.

PREPARE
domain-specific education, project planning and design

Learn domain and discipline knowledge
Learn relevant theories, perspectives, tools, and models
Surface beliefs and mental models underlying the proposed action
Record predictions
Design action to maximize learning
Generate usable frameworks and templates for data and reflection

ACT
implementation focus, ongoing data collection

Learn and use skills by using and applying frameworks, templates, theory, tools, etc.
(both content- and process-related)
Learn and use domain and discipline knowledge as demanded by situation
Collect and assess multiple kinds of data
Plan, document, carry out and assess novel methods of organizing, interacting, and getting things done
Learn by getting feedback from others and from actions taken
Generate results (or lack thereof)

REFLECT
what to make of this experience

Learn what you don't know, and want to know, and figure out how to learn more, all domains
Learn by reflecting on the use of theory, frameworks, data templates
Learn from other students' experiences---peers are key
Learn how to use others' feedback and collaboration in the review and reflection process
Generate new frameworks and templates
Draw on current learning to plan next steps
