Team to submit bug reports on the wiki > Wilson has inquiry with VMWARE fusion for best method to post bugs

Licenses will be for updates June 2009 ( 18 months ) License is perpetual.

There is a wiki available - Currently the VMware team are only staff allowed to post > others have read only

Status updates >

Known issues will be posted to wiki
Projects front doors to be ready next week
Tech writer would like VMWare docs stored on local server as well

Wiki for Why use VMWare will be created by Heather > ideas and collaboration to be added by our team >

Network Configs by Chris Murphy was discussed >
No surpises as VMware behaved as suspected > tested bridging mostly

3 modes: Different configs for VMware:

Bridged > any traffic from Vm goes to default network > out via Ethernet

NAT Mode > VMs are sharing IP of host machine

Host Mode > completely internal no outside connectivity

MAC address > keep track of address ...do not reg a VM for wireless dhcp > Each VM will have its independent MAC >

Big question for users will be : Did you Move / Copy your VMware machine>
Move will keep VM MAC Address
Copy ( backup) creates MAC CHANGE >

What are we advising ... ? ( There is no best practice decided upon at this time )
Deploying in cluster > Copy would be advised
Moving or creating a backup > Move ( not copy)

Mark Silis said there is no objection to running in NAT mode.
Kerb 4 problem
Zephyr >

Heather to capture the network configuration documents.

Alex K - do we "touch" deployment issues in this phase / release...

Stock Anwer request> What is the diffence between moving or copying a VM ????

Why register via DHCP > how is MAC handled >

Bridged mode > due to ARP usage ( Chris to work w/ Heather to clarify and doc)

Users should do a dhcp reg in following order > Wireless ( host ) Ethernet connection (host) unplug >.then wireless vmware

We have to come back to a recommendation ( chris / heather to doc best practices)

Licensing VMware discussed:

MS - VMWare

What do we want to do ? as best practice
There are two different issus
Licensing application running within VMware vs Licensing the actual Fusion VMWare
Paul Heffernon will be contacted to come to future meeting

MIT vs. Personal machine >
Built in license server - what happens when you run a licensed served application ...
Some software allows multiple limits of application copy?
What if you have 10 copies of windows but only run
Certain vendors disallow install of application in Vmachines...

Action items:
Deb to seek permission to host docs locally
Deb to nudge Wilson to obtain supportpak; escalation path for bugs
Team review of licensing
Team review of wiki pages created by Heather Anne and add input, clarification or otherwise
