Discussion of System-wide Instruction Plan Draft
A few small edits were discussed but the group agreed that overall it looks really good. The next step is to circulate it through the individual library units for feedback and then send to PSLG for final approval by October. Once it is approved Steve Gass would like a project plan for recommendations to be implemented.
Discussed questions for Rotch Reference Coordinator interviews scheduled for August - RISG members are invited to the presentation, followed by a Q&A session
Feedback on new instruction statistics tool
Emailed Sands about sorting, filtering and reporting
reviewed and discussed Web pages in RISG purview
Angie Locknar will follow through with the following updates, but not until October.
reference manual webpages - there are broken links and old acronyms on the html page (http://libraries.mit.edu/help/virtualref.html); Georgiana has made updates to the http://del.icio.us/version of the page (http://libraries.mit.edu/help/virtualref/cloud.html) but the top level links on the library pages still need to be updated. Maggie will follow up with Nicole about the status of the virtual reference page and its status with http://del.icio.us/
Orientation webpages:
- Remove the link to orientation from the group instruction part of: http://libraries.mit.edu/ask-us/
- Remove the link to orientation from the group instruction part of: http://libraries.mit.edu/ask-us/instruction/
- Information about orientation (http://libraries.mit.edu/orientation/2007/) will be posted to the library homepage spotlight during orientation week and the library news blog, where the url will be archived. Mark Szarko, as orientation coordinator, will take care of orientation links for 2007.
Recent Activities: Instructional Support (http://libraries.mit.edu/ask-us/instruction/recent.html) is not being maintained and it was recommended for deletion - the library news blog seems like a reasonable replacement
ask-us/instruction webpage (http://libraries.mit.edu/ask-us/instruction/)
- Current and past information workshops - these listings and links for handouts and materials were being updated by Remlee, but ESL isn't offering any more sessions again until IAP in January. The links provide access to handouts from past sessions; this will be evaluated further as part of RISG's web based repository for instruction material
- Customized workshops -
- Keep RSS Feeds as an example, but remove link so not out of date
-
- GIS - changed to index page so latest version will be teach/index.html and its up to lisa to keep index page as up to date workshops or as general page
- Remove instruct-lib@mit.edu and leave link to expert subject librarians
- Request marion to email the divisional librarians every 6 months with url of expert subject librarians to make sure is up to date
- Request marion to remove names from research consultations appointment form; leave only library as option (hasn't been being maintained)
Action item:
Create "Future agenda items" section of wiki - done by Lisa (9/5/07)
Future agenda items:
- Sharing of information learned at conferences/ meetings - sometimes this occurs within individual units, does it make sense to have something arranged system wide and have RISG help sponsor?
- Update instruction toolkit
- RISG web based repository of instruction material
