Gulf of Maine
- Catches have declined steadily for the past four years, and are "well below the maxima taken during the 1970s and 1980s"
- Spawning stock has increased since the late 1990s
- The stock remains overfished, and overfishing continues.
Grand Banks
- The 2005 catch was a record low
- Landings from the eastern section are taken (mostly) during first and second quarters
- Landings from the western section account for most of the catch. Catches are highest in the second calendar quarter, but landings occur throughout the year.
- Most of the landings are of "market" size (medium)
- Total Biomass has decreased since the 1970s, and has shown no trend since 1994.
- The stock remains below average in terms of Biomass Index
- Considered overfished and overfishing is occuring.
