What you should pay:

If you are fully funded (either by NSE directly or through external fellowships), you should only be responsible for the following two charges:

1. "Graduate Student Life Fee:" in the amount of $148.00 for Fall 2014, occur during the first month of every semester;
2. Dorm charge & tax if you live on campus. Remember to pay off these bill by the end of each month. Pay attention to the "payment due date" on each page.

I think I was late in my payment by a couple of days my first semester. I called my financial representative and told him I am new and don't know what I am doing, and he didn't have any problem removing my late fee.

Later down the road, you might get other charges, like the MIT ID fee for replacing an ID, bus/subway pass fee if you choose to purchase a MBTA pass through MIT, or the thesis fee when you finish your degree.

What you should not pay:

You will see charges like the following two (there is a bug in this year's system where it states "Fall 2015" but should be "Fall 2014"), and DO NOT PAY Tuition & health insurance charges if you are fully funded! What happens is that it might take a month or two before NSE can set up the right magic to pay off these two charges, and you might see "late fee" generated from not paying off the charges, but they will go away as soon as NSE pays them (if the late fee does not go away, call your financial representative whose name and number is listed on your MITPAY page)

• To access your monthly bill, go to MIT WebSIS (http://student.mit.edu/) and click on "MITPAY." MITPAY is this oddly looking site where you deal with all your school-related financials... Click on "View Accounts" to see what bills you have for the current month and any previous months. 
• When in doubt of any charges, call the number listed next to the item in the MITPAY page. They are typically pretty good at figuring what's going on and resolving issues for students.
