Shannon C. and Charlie G. built a pull testing jig to enable the rapid testing of many root filet geometries and materials. Preliminary testing is ambiguous. Further testing is underway.
There was a proposal to replace the SS-316 used in the leading edges with Grade 5 titanium as a weight saving measure. Titanium machining tests were successful, however it was decided that the superior stiffness of stainless steel was desirable
