The need to annotate webpages and to share the annotations is ubiquitous. In college setting, a student often prints out a webpage (e.g., a Wikipedia entry) and then annotates on the paper copy; later on, this student might share the annotated material with other students, who will make further annotations. In the work environment, an annotated and shared online manual would benefit both experts and novices by expediting their information retrieval process and learning from annotations by other people. Unfortunately, in both examples, the lack of a centralized software renders the annotating/sharing process clumsy (e.g., converting to paper copies) and slow (e.g., sharing via email exchanges).
Our goal is to make a tool that consolidates the process of annotating and sharing webpages. This would allow the users to annotate a webpage without converting it to a suitable format first. Moreover, users will be able to share annotated webpages among themselves fast under the same software setting. In other words, our tool enables collaborative sharing.
