Coverage: Proceedings in print since 1962. MIT has licensed, full-text access to all proceedings available on the SPIE site. (Digital coverage begins with Vol. 1200 (1990)).

Barton records: Print vols. were received by MIT until 2006. Vols. were primarily cataloged monographically, and digital holdings/URLs were piggybacked onto print records.

Project information: A project was undertaken Feb./Mar. 2010 to bring Barton coverage current to the end of 2009. Presumably currency will be maintained 2010- through the purchase of record sets.

Outline of project:

1. Titles scraped from SPIE site for proceedings issued 2006-2009 (http://spiedigitallibrary.aip.org/browse/year_range.jsp) and put into a spreadsheet.
2. Z39.50 query of Barton by titles to determine which items already cataloged as print/piggybacks.
3. Z39.50 query of remaining titles against OCLC to find appropriate records.
4. Titles manually matched with OCLC e-resource records.
5. Z39.50 query of OCLC by system numbers to retrieve appropriate records (735 record total).
6. Records edited in Marc Edit for consistency and to make them conform to local standards.
7. Records already in Barton also edited for consistency/currency of URLs.
8. Records batch-loaded by Beth.
