GR3 - Paper Prototyping
Prototype Photos
Briefing
3rd Down Play is an application designed to allow students to easily find and create study groups for the problem set(s) they are working on at any given time.
You should be able to:
- Let people know you are looking for help on a particular problem set
- Find other people working on the same problem set as you are
- Change the information that other people can see about what you are working on
User Tasks
For each iteration we approached 3 people and asked them to test our prototype. We gave each of them 1 task at a time in sequential order and all of the users completed all 3 tasks.
Task 1
Use the interface to make yourself available for 6.006 problem set 2 problem 3. You are working in Stata.
Task 2
Find a person or a group that is working on a 6.046 problem set and join them.
Task 3
Remove yourself from the 6.046 group.
Observations
Each iteration consisted of finding 3 random people that had not seen the prototype before or had heard us working on the prototype.
Iteration 1
- Users skipped the "Map Me" button and used the "Location Description" input box to indicate that they were in building 32
- When trying to find others they skipped the drop down box to select the class
- Home screen "view/edit status" button was used for creating a post
- User 3 did not like the "available" wording or the "Update Post" wording
- The information page for a particular person makes it seem like the classes is a selectable list
Iteration 2
- Need to change "Map Me" button on the "Find Others" page should be changed to "Find Others on Map"
- A user was unsure about where to type in problem set information
- Some confusion about "status" wording
- Some confusion about adding/removing people and removing themselves
- Feedback that the general idea of "grouping" is ambiguous
Prototype Iterations
- Move "Map Me" button on the "My Info" page to be above the "Location Description" so that it is more clear that the Location Description should be supplemental to the user's physical location.
- Gray out the "view/edit status" button on the Home page
- On the Person Info page we removed the "class list" as it was confusing and did not seem to be important information

Nice job & overall clear presentation.
User testing observations: From writeup, it isn't clear that you had 6 users. Lack of detail in observation writeup.
Presentation: No captions on pictures; please put +/- on observations
