Please see proposed agenda for 28 January 2008 meeting attached.

Attached also are the meeting slides from 21 January 2008. We had eight students from the Sustainable Energy PhD and the Leaders for Technical Industries PhD (Engineering Design and Manufacturing).

Some impressions:

  • The SES students are already using a wiki created at MIT
  • We talked about the cultural expectations and rhythms of work, research, life in Portugal vs. the USA, and how students have experienced those differences so far in the Program
  • Everyone was pretty excited about using Second Life. Some people had experienced bandwidth problems that prevented it from working well, especially when accessing SL from home.
  • An interesting perceived advantage of having a research/educational gathering in SL was to overcome barriers presented by cultural norms for behavior in groups, as well as technical barriers that make it difficult to participate in a videoconference
  • No labels
