Help DLCs define their computing/business needs

  • Through iterative consultation define and document the DLCs goals and objectives
  • Enable limited faculty and researcher experimentation with Technology in teaching and research
  • Recommend appropriate solutions
  • Engagements have clearly defined objectives and expections
  • Evaluation of not only what's best for the client, but what's best for the enterprise
  • Technical recommendations promote consistency among the enterprise and represent a consistent viewpoint from IS&T (e.g. guidance from TAP)
  • Promote a culture with a cornerstone of sound information security principles
  • Always take into consideration an exit strategy

Assist DLCs in the design and implementation of computing solutions that:

  • Meet the defined needs of the DLC
  • Meet the defined goals and objectives of the project
  • Promote IS&T standards and best practices
  • Utilize IS&T resources
  • Develop Web and FileMaker systems that meet the project’s goals and objectives
  • Recommend appropriate external vendors when internal resources are not available
  • Follow usability and accessibility guidelines that ensure an effective, efficient, and satisfactory user experience

Assist individual faculty and researchers assess available technology and provide limited resources to enable bounded experimentation in the classroom and lab. Experiments that emerge as needing to continue will either being managed by the DLC or migrated into the appropriate operations groups in IS&T.

Maintain and support the computing/application solutions implemented

  • Working with DLCs
  • Working with other IS&T groups
  • Working with individuals in the MIT community
    • Providing tier 1 support and escalation
  • Implement support Service Level Agreements
    • MDS Long Term
    • MDS Short Term
    • MDS On Call
    • DCAD Web and FileMaker Maintenance
    • DCAD Web and FileMaker Managed Hosting
  • Update systems with patches and new versions
  • Provide tier 3 support
  • Provide effective training and documentation

Assist individuals in making informed technology choices that enable the MIT mission

  • Provide computer and hardware purchasing advice
  • Lead community outreach efforts based on responsible and safe IT use (security FYI, student orientation)
  • Listen to community needs and requirements through customer interfaces
  • Participate in and provide meaningful feedback into the software release process
