About this service
This resource is operated and maintained by the Content and Collaboration Group, Information Services and Technology at MIT.
How's it Work?
The wiki uses Confluence, a popular enterprise wiki application developed by Atlassian Software
Confluence is segmented into wiki 'Spaces'. A space can be either world readable or restricted, with varying permission levels, to members of a given group (or set of groups). Each space has an administrator or administrative group associated with it.
Members of the admin group can control some elements of the look and feel of the space and can manage the users and user group(s) associated with that space.
For instance:
You are currently in the 'Welcome to the MIT IS&T Wiki Service', or 'TOP' space. This space is world-readable, and permissions are set such that anyone in the group confluence-users (anyone with an account) can add comments.
To get to any of the wiki's private spaces requires either:
- a valid MIT certificate
or - to have logged in to the MIT Touchstone service
and
- membership in a Moira group or Stellar class list which has been granted access to the space
or - to have been granted individual access to the space
OR, for non-MIT users..
- a Confluence username/password account (non-MIT users can register for an account via a link on the username/password login page)
and - membership in the appropriate Moira/Confluence group
- membership is generally managed by the administrator of the space in question (see below)
or

To have a space created for your group:
A wiki space needs to be requested and set up centrally. You can request a wiki site using the Wiki Request Form
For Stellar-related class sites, access to the wiki space is linked to the Stellar faculty and student lists.
Try it out in the Test Space
Give it a try!
A sandbox/test space is available to registered, logged-in users.
