This resource is operated and maintained by the Educational Technology Consultant's Group, which is part of Academic Computing, which is part of Information Services and Technology at MIT. This is a pilot project.

How's it Work?

Confluence is segmented into 'Spaces'. A space can be either world readable or restricted, with varying permission levels, to members of a given group (or set of groups). Each space has an administrative group associated with it. Members of the admin group can control the look and feel of the space and can manage the user group associated with that space.
For instance:
You are currently in the 'Welcome to the Academic Computing Wiki', or 'TOP' space. This space is world-readable, and permissions are set such that anyone in the group confluence-users (anyone with an account) can add comments.

To get to any of the wiki's private spaces requires either:

• a valid MIT certificate
  and
• membership in a Moira group which has been granted access to the space

OR, for non-MIT users..

• a Confluence username/password account (non-MIT users can register for an account via a link on the username/password login page)
  and
• membership in the appropriate Moira/Confluence group
  • membership is generally managed by the administrator of the space in question (see below)

You must also have cookies and javascript enabled in your browser.

Space Setup

A wiki space needs to be requested and set up centrally. Contact confluence-space-request@mit.edu with the following information:

• Name and purpose of the space.
• Name of a person or persons who will administer the space.
  The spaces' administrator group will be able manage permissions for the space, based on Moira groups. The Moira groups can include entries of type 'kerberos' (MIT username) and 'string' (use email address for non-MIT users).
