Card sorting for 2nd level page nav bar redesign
why:
- We need to gather user input to inform our choices for redesigning the 2nd level web pages navigation bar.
(will also use for renaming home page categories)
- We need to figure out what the sub-menus should be.
- Find out from users what the top priorities are for things they are looking for on our site.
- As part of this, we need to decide whether we still need a “Search our collections” page and if so, what should be on it.
when:
Sept/Oct 2012
- aim to deliver results to UIG by October 12 (at least how many categories); or at latest, by October 31 (names of categories)
how:
- card sorting tests (virtual tests using Optimal Sort)
- include ways to verify our choices (round 2 of test: use TreeJack tool for this)

recruiting:
- get volunteers from: mainly students, some faculty if we can get them, a few other audiences, if they volunteer (use participants identified via the survey - people who volunteered to help in future )
- offer a reward for user’s time (give them a choice of Tech Cash or Amazon gift cards: $25)
