This page outlines the hiring process using GAP (use for hiring RA and TA positions only)

Graduate Appointment Portal (GAP)

https://gap.hcp.mit.edu/index.html

Hiring Rules For MSRED Teaching Assistants

  • 12-unit courses get 10-hours per week for a TA (50% effort)
  • 6-unit courses get 5-hours per week for a TA (25% effort)
  • 3-unit courses typically do not get a TA

Salary

  • The CRE will match the salary rates implemented by DUSP.
  • For TA positions, the CRE will not match any tuition benefit
  • For RA positions, it is expected that the CRE will match both the salary and tuition benefit that DUSP offers.

Exceptions

  • RED Studio (18 units) may have more than 1 TA

Deadlines

  • Make sure to adhere to Union Deadlines for entering appointments into GAP. The GAP system will use the information entered to generate an offer letter to the student.
  • It is more important to have the letter out in time than to have all the information related to the job so if there are missing pieces, (i.e., hours, work location, etc.) process the letter anyway.
  • The additional information can be entered by the supervisor using the ATLAS app.
