Next Steps:

  • initial architecture
  • load/environment definition
  • structural interfaces in design
  • block CAD
  • read SMAD

Structures:

  1. Load/environment definition (mission requirements):
  • load definition
    • (launch loads, vibrational)
  • modal requirements ← Oligo might take of this
  • internal pressure
  • thermal (determine if we need a heating/cooling sys based on what electrical says)
  • volume
  • Oligo interface

2. Initial Architecture

  • Baffles
    • structural integrity (sloshing & mixing), analyze materials & manufacturability (metal 3d printing), temperature
  • Tank
    • servos
  • science system
    • cameras
    • thermocouple(s)
  • Harnessing (work with electrical to account for this)
  • Tank has to be exposed to the environment

→ What structural components are carrying the load? What is the load? How much load is it carrying?

3. Structural Interfaces

  • Oligo interface (actual satellite)
  • Are baffles welded to tank?
  • Figure out all structural interfaces
  • make ICD - interface control document
  • will help with getting initial geometry

4. Materials

  • validate and verify materials mentioned in paper
  • Consider:
    • outgassing
    • thermal
    • structural/mass
  • Falcon 9 user guide in resources (mostly for T&M)
  • Come up with mass budget for each component
  • E&M interference (electrical and magnetic interference)
  • good material for thermal camera? (something that is thermally conductive but not E&M)

5. Block CAD

  • model cad components as blocks
  • figure out placements of everything and volumes
  • e.x. tank is spinning: make sure wires/sensors don't get in the way
  • get sizing

6. Initial Structural Analysis

  • math & simulations

7. Detailed CAD

  • exact geometries and looking at tolerances
    • leak testing
      • what O-rings, etc.

8. Detailed FEA

  • No labels
