MITSOC Meeting Minutes

1. Signed forms for ASA
2. Letter writing campaign-Can start writing them tonight.
a. Still focusing on 6 senators
i. Both Californians
ii. Both Massachusetts
iii. Stevens
iv. Cantwell
b. How many letters do we want to send to each of them?
i. Think that we can get each person to sign six letters
1. Alex J. wants to send about 150 to each
c. Letter materials, envelopes, etc.
i. David is supposed to be looking into getting ones with MIT seal on them
ii. Alex J's uncle owns paper co. so we could potentially design our own seal and have those printed
d. How do we pay for these letters and materials
i. Alex V. says we might be too late to get funding for the fall.
ii. If we are too late, the ASA has emergency funds for new groups and emergencies but this is a huge ordeal.
iii. Make member dues 5$ in order to pay for these letters up front
1. Vote: we would rather try to get other funding before raising membership fees.
e. Alex needs to talk to SAO about bulk mailing
3. Poll:
a. Do we like using an MIT wiki system or Wikipedia??
4. We need a description for our Athena locker about who we are
a. Decided to do this on the website that Adam designed on his locker.
i. Are going to change and edit it to suit MITSOC.
ii. Could use some of our old content, although we don't really want to..
iii. Can use pictures from Iceland: pretty pictures and bloody fish ones. 
iv. Have four tabs

5. Wiki: We are setting up one for ourselves on the sustainability page
a. Password: in the email I sent out
6. SEAL/LOGO for MITSOC
a. Competition (all in good fun) will vote on the design at next meeting.
7. Opening event for MITSOC (takes places during 1.016 exhibit opening)
a. Would be an expenditure
i. Could charge: have like a catered meal
1. Offer seafood
a. Get Legal Seafood to cater? Invite legal seafood pres. Formally
b. Invite Gloucester Market people
2. Offer vegetarian food
3. Have small tables set up around the exhibit so that people could take and walk around
4. Invite Gloucester people, Kerry, etc to exhibit opening??
a. This could detract from our exhibit
b. Could formally invite Kerry, offer to close exhibit while he is there.
5. Invite others from our panel as well??
