Design 1 – Teacher-Parent Voicemail

This design has two parts: a web interface and a phone interface.

  • Busy Brenda could schedule a conversation with Teacher Tammy by either logging into the web interface, and writing the message, or by calling Teacher Tammy’s phone number and leave a voice mail.
  • The voice mail would be translated into text (by some program like Google Voice), and Teacher Tammy would then hear the voicemail or read it in her web interface.
  • After Teacher Tammy would type or record a new message regarding Sarah’s performance, Busy Brenda would get a phone call by the program that would reproduce or read her the message. She would also be able to check the messages in the web interface.

The web interface would look like the one in the picture. Once Teacher Tammy would log in, she would be able to see a history of the phone calls or messages she has gotten. She would have the options of replying or deleting each message.

Design 2 – Notebook Communicator

This non-computer interface consists of a notebook, where every day has a page assigned. Every student would own one.

  • The day Busy Brenda learned that Sarah failed her test, she would write a note on the corresponding page, in the space reserved for parent’s comments, requesting an appointment with Teacher Tammy.
  • Sarah would take her notebook with her to school the next day, and hand it in to teacher Tammy, who would then reply to Brenda by confirming a day they could meet.
  • At the end of the day, before Sarah goes back home, teacher Tammy would write a note about Sarah’s progress/behavior/etc to Brenda, on the space reserved for teacher’s notes. She would also write Sarah’s score for that day’s exam in the space reserved for grades.
  • That night Sarah would show her notebook to her mom. Brenda would see that Teacher Tammy could meet with her next Tuesday, and she would sign the notes written by Tammy so that the next day, when Tammy checks Sarah’s notebook again, she sees that Brenda read her comments.

Design 3 – Website

This is a very complete website that would allow Teacher Tammy to keep track of the progress of each of her students. Each student would have his own profile where Tammy would add their grades, their assignments, or keep track of their attendance. The website would also have a section for messages, which would allow Teacher Tammy to communicate with her student’s parents, who would have access to a similar interface.

  • The day Busy Brenda discovered Sarah’s failure, she would log into her interface and send Teacher Tammy a message to schedule a conversation.
  • Teacher Tammy would receive the message in her interface and reply.
  • Teacher Tammy would also be able to send Brenda details on Sarah’s grades, assignments, and behavior as she would be keeping track of it in Sarah’s profile.
