Design 1  - Teacher-Parent Mailbox

This is a non-computer interface solution. The mailbox would be placed at the entrance of the school so that both Busy Brenda and Teacher Tammy would have access to it.

  • Brenda, could express her concerns by writing a note and putting it into Tammy’s slot.
  • Tammy, could reply but writing another note and leaving it in Brenda’s slot.
  • By writing daily notes, Teacher Tammy could update Brenda of Sarah’s progress, share educational resources, and tell her about upcoming important assignments


Design 2 – Teacher Parent forum
 
This simple design would provide teachers and parents with a platform where they could share their concerns or opinions about matters related to school and educating their children. It would also contain a page called “Chats” where users would be able to have private conversations.

  • Busy Brenda would send a message to Teacher Tammy through the chats page, requesting a conversation with her to discuss Sarah’s math failure.
  • Busy Brenda would also be able to express her concerns about her daughter failing math in the forum. Other parents or even Teacher Tammy would be able to reply to her comments and provide her with educational material, or other solutions to her problem.



Design 3  - Observation Tablet

The interface is designed to be ultra-efficient. The teacher can take fast notes of her observations during class, and share them with Busy Brenda. Busy Brenda can check her mail daily and stay updated on Sarah’s progress.

  • The main screen would have the name of each student. When Teacher Tammy checked Sarah successfully did her homework, she would click on Sarah's name, type a message on the textbox and save it. Her comment would be saved in Sarah's page.
  • The second picture shows how Sarah’s profile would look like. At the end of the day, Tammy would click into Sarah’s profile, and send all her comments to Sarah’s mom. 
  • Brenda would receive an email containing Tammy's comments. This would allow Brenda to stay up to date with her daughter's progress at school.
