Computer Prototype

Scenario

The scenario for Teleport is described in detail in GR2 - Initial Designs.

System / Software Requirements

The prototype is known to work on recent versions of Webkit browsers (Google Chrome, Safari) on Mac OSX.

For "Teleport Me" function to work, the Google Earth Browser Plugin must be installed. (If the plugin is not found, the user will be prompted).

For "Video Chat" to work properly, your browser must support HTML5 and a webcam/microphone must be installed.

Using the Prototype

Start the prototype by following this URL: Teleport

The prototype should display well for a wide range of screen resolutions.

Limitations

  • All data (tweet streams, contacts, notification history) is canned
  • Location of "Teleport Me" fixed to MIT.
  • In order to use the keyboard controls for first-person "Teleport Me" navigator, the user must first focus the mouse on the map's container by clicking it.
  • Text chat is non-functional.
  • No labels

  3. Wiki presentation: Your list of things that don't yet work is not all inclusive-I couldn't get the settings button to work.
Fidelity: Previous iterations had tweets posted directly to the map. Also you could view images posted by friends. Where did that functionality go?
Usability: The login page is very wide. ""Add people to Teletalk' is hidden in the top bar which probably should remain static for all of the pages. It's not immediately obvious how to interact with the map (I'm used to mouse control and that didn't work) and I keep running into errors. I couldn't figure out how to do more than pan the map. In addition, the map is provided without much context, and it's not clear to me where I'll be teleporting-especially if I can video chat with multiple people at once. This makes less sense without personalized things on the map.
Overall: The Teletalk tab has some security flaws right now. I'm pretty sure I ended up in a video chat with another reviewer without any sort of prompting that this would happen. For your final GR5 turn in, make sure to incorporate the things that make this UI personal-you seem to have lost many of your original personalizations and haven't indicated on your wiki that you'll be adding them back in.
