Attending: Elaine, Ann, Ranjani, Molly, Kate, Kris, Peter

1.) Ranjani's layout for site navigation and home page.

http://web.mit.edu/~ranjani/www/dontindex/videoportal/

First pass at a wireframe of our portal.

Ranjani took our content, and the ideas discussed at our last meeting, and drafted a first cut front page for us to review.

Major areas at top:

Getting Started

Hosting options

Services

Standards

Hardware - for DIY

FAQ

Can also have a template wizard that helps people walk through their questions.

Showcase/news - examples of good/bad video - can include TechTV and MIT World. Keeping this piece up will be work that has to be taken into account. Could also include RSS feeds, blogs, and other ways to communicate.

FAQ - 5 top questions could be included here.

We're trying to talk to someone who's coming to the portal for the first time, and talk to people who know what they're doing. We may have too much information at the top. If we have two top level items, with other things lower down.

The number of options is too much for a novice. The navigation may need to be lower down.

A sub-group will take the wireframes to the next step: Ranjani, Kate, and Elaine.

Peter pointed out that the AMPS site is really already an infrastructure that we can use; how can we tie into what's been done? Use the framework of the site for our video portal.

We can ask Nicole Hennig (Libraries) if she will help us with usability testing.

Do we want to use the AMPS design, or do we want to create our own design?

See Ranjani's list of questions that we need to consider.

Who will own the site after it is finished? Tw/T?

We'll need a recommendation that someone/some group needs to sponsor and maintain the site.

Much of our information that we've gathered actually already exists on other sites (i.e., AMPS, OCW, TechTV, and so on). Can we develop dynamic feeds to that information that changes on the other sites gets updated on the video portal without hand coding.

2.) Kris, Kate & Elaine's hardware recommendations.

Kate suggested that the list needs to be a bit more high level that explain what people need (i.e, a camera that does X things), with links to specs.

3.) Kris & Elaine answering the questions on the output capture page.

ACCORDIACS meeting:

Where will site be hosted?

We have questions about how the site will be maintained; who will maintain it?

Recommendations for do-it-yourself kits - questions around who will maintain? Who will service the equipment? Where do they live?

Two assignments:

1. Elaine, Ranjani, Kate to mock up another wireframe based on our discussion

2. Kris will revise the hardware recommendations, with Molly.
