We reviewed the site with Oliver & Steve and they offered the following suggestions and feedback:
- The horizontal diamonds in current layout suggest sequence. We should remove them.
- Since "transcribe" from the 'Plan' section is optional (though others of us don't agree), should it be in same hierarchy as the other items on that list?
- Consider using a different word than "watch". More like "MIT Channels" or something like that.
After the above feedback, we brainstormed re-designing the navigation and we came up with a plan that seems to sit well with everyone. We'll leverage the far left navigation as follows:
- When you click on Video Capture & Delivery, the link will expand to show Vid Conf and Dist Learning underneath it.
- Those two links will go directly to the current Vid Conf and Dist Learning pages.
- BUT, what you will see in the 'home' page for Vid Capture and Delivery is the welcome text outline the major phases of video production.
- Instead of listing them vertically as is currently, we'll list them horizontally (which means we can probably keep the connected diamonds after all, becuase we *are* implying sequence).
- In this new layout we may want to 'fold' capture and plan sections together. And we may want to subsume Trasncribe into one of the other sections.
- We also realize, now, that the 'deliver' section is cimilar enough to 'watch' that we don't need the wathc section. So we have, in effect, eliminated the original horizontal nav in the Vid Capt and Del subsection.
In answer to the question about who manages and supports equipment rental at MIT, we still don't have definitive answer yet, but for the moment we will link to external vendors in the area.
