IDN Meeting notes
July 10, 2008

Attendees:  Laura, Joost, Amy, Sally, Trish, Alex, Sunita
Discussion of the 5 annual events that IDN would like to support, organize or attend:

Early Fall: The International Development Fair

Late Fall: Showcase of the work done in the project-based classes

Early Spring: International Development Conference (or something similar)

Late Spring: Showcase of the work done in the project-based classes

Summer: IDDS final presentations (a chance to showcase upcoming classes as well as opportunities to get involved in ID at MIT)
Sally, Joost and Alex will organize for tables at this summer's IDDS presentations (currently scheduled to be held in 34-101 but Joost is checking on Bartos Theatre).  The table will highlight the ways the MIT community can get involved in International Development at MIT.
Amy encouraged everyone to check out the IDDS website: http://www.iddsummit.org/

where Niall is keeping a blog.   A schedule of events that are open to the MIT community is also posted there.
Sally requested that we better define "international development' in the book as well as for our own purposes.  The definitions that we use now are currently too inclusive and allowed for some groups to participate who aren't related clearly to International Development.
We are part of the Campaign for Students this year, we need to step it up a notch.  This year we will showcase some students who are doing great things in ID and also put them in the booklet.  Thought perhaps 4-6 students is plenty.
We looked over the "To Do IDF" list that Laura brought and the budget from 2007.  Each major component of the event was assigned to a committee who will work on that piece of the fair.
Everyone agreed we might need to get more money this year than we have in the past if the event is going to be larger/more high profile this year.
Alex will send around a list of participants from last year and get the group's opinion about those who should not be included.  At the next meeting we will also brainstorm students we want to showcase at the event and in the book. Next meeting:  Tuesday, July 22, 12 - 1.30pm  Room 5-232
