MAP members need to plan what to do with the developers.mit.edu hostname to replace the defunct developers' forum that was there.

Our first thoughts were to develop a decision-making guide to help software developers find the services they need from within the IS&T labyrinth.

  1. Create a simple web site named developers.mit.edu that we can use for delivering our messages to the community.
  2. Develop a mission statement for the web site. This should explain to the intended audience(s) what the intent of the site is.
  3. Develop text that explains who is behind this community sites. The intended audience should be able to quickly understand that IS&T is behind this and the the site is expected to have a long life. It is not a student developed site that will disappear shortly after someone graduates.
  4. Create a blog that can be publicized from the developers.mit.edu site.
  5. Assign staff to create blog postings approximately once a week. If we have several staff members rotating once a week the burden should not be onerous. Blog posting can consist of Java User Group meeting notes, ISDA project news, tutorials with sample code, ...
  6. Develop content that is useful to a wide variety of developers. Example, who can obtain an SVN repository on svn.mit.edu, how do they request a repository, how is access control managed,
