IS&T Measures for FY07

The FY06 version of the measures web site is now at http://web.mit.edu/measures/
Stanford's version of this sort of measures system is at http://www.stanford.edu/services/itmetrics/   Their categorization of metrics types is worth thinking about adopting.

This version of the web site will take into acount the new OIS interactive graphing system.
See the OIS cacti site: https://whos-there.mit.edu/cacti/graph_view.php

Design Principles

Jerry's suggestions include:

  • prioritize the measures -- lead with the big ones
  • don't use Y ranges that don't start at zero.

OIS Measures

From Theresa's point of view, these measures are especially meaningful to her:

  1. Aggregate Calendar users  (watching weekend usage going up, say)
  2. Aggregate External mail (on-campus / off-campus )
  3. Aggregate Webmail
  4. Aggregate Wireless

She'd like to add measures for the win.mit.edu domain and the WAUS service.

Joanne Hallisey reports these measures have been of interest within OIS:

  1. web traffic, on-campus and off-campus
  2. email -- % spam, % viruses
  3. TSM -- ideally the level of successful restores -- see DaveK for what can be captured.
  4. Co-location (but Karen is leaving and a new relationship will need to built for this)
  5. Wireless
  6. VoIP
