Metadata Production via the DSpace Submission User Interface

Getting Started

  1. Login to DSpace: http://dspace.mit.edu/login
  2. Click 'Submissions'
  3. Click 'start a new submission'
  4. In the 'Select a collection' drop-down menu, scroll all the way down to the w's.  You will find a long list of 'Working Papers' collections.  Select the first one and click 'Next'.

 The Submission Process

  1. Initial Questions
    1. Multiple titles: We usually do not check this box.  If the working paper has an alternative title, check the box.
    2. Published: We usually check this box.
  2. The First Description Screen
    1. Author. Enter the last and first names of each author.
    2. Title. Enter the title.
    3. Date of Issue. Enter the date of distribution of the working paper if found on the paper.
    4. Publisher
      1. For ACDL Tech Reports: The publisher is "Aerospace Computational Design Laboratory, Dept. of Aeronautics & Astronautics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology"
      2. For MIT CEEPR: "MIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research"
      3. For HAL Reports: "MIT Humans and Automation Laboratory"
    5. Citation. These working papers will not have citations
    6. Series/Report No.:
      1. For ACDL Tech Reports
        1. Series Name is "ACDL Technical Reports"
        2. Report number is as found here: http://raphael.mit.edu/pubsTechRep.html
            There are two variations depending on whether the date of the report.  Early report numbers begin "FDRL", later reports "ACDL".  The change took place between 2003 and 2006.
      2. For MIT CEEPR
        1. Series Name is "MIT-CEEPR (Series)"
        2. Report or paper No. will be some varation of "03-016WP".  You will find this number on the working paper.
      3. For Hal Reports:
        1. Series Name is "HAL Reports
        2. Report or paper No. will be some variation of "HAL2009-03". You will find this number on the working paper.
    7. Identifiers. These working papers will likely not have any identifiers.
    8. Type
      1. For working paper collections it is "Working Paper".
      2. For reports it is "Technical Report"
    9. Language is English (United States)
  3. The Second Description Screen
    1. Subject Keywords. If the working paper contains keywords, enter them.
    2. Abstract. If the working paper contains an abstract, cut and paste it into this field.
    3. Sponsors. If the working paper contains a statement of sponsorship, cut and paste it into this field.
    4. Description. You can leave this field blank.
  4. Upload
    1. Browse for file
    2. Describe File.  Use "Series Statement, for example, "MIT-CEEPR (Series); 03-016WP"?
    3. Upload file & add another or Next
  5. Review
    1. Review and correct as necessary, then click 'Next'.
  6. The Creative Commons License
    1. I'm fairly certain you can ignore this section and click 'Next".
  7. The DSpace Deposit License
    1. You have to check 'I Grant the License', then click 'Complete submission'.
  8. Completion
    1. Start over. Click 'Submit another item'.
