Rush materials (CDs, scores, and videos) come in on most days. The supply of music rush items is ample enough that Ray only catalogs rush books when needed as backup.

Ray catalogs music books with CDs (which are handed off from other catalogers) for two reasons: 1) item information (e.g. circ code) for CDs is not always the same as what is created with the usual expansion code; 2) 006 field and contents notes for the CDs are added to catalog records on a case-by-case basis; Ray works on these with Jane, who is usually responsible for typing in the notes.

Ray only recalls precats with copy (or items without copy that can be cataloged in certain circumstances). Because of this, Ray tracks the numbers of music precats and recalls them after searching for matches in OCLC, using information from brief records kept in an Excel file. Other items needing original cataloging are only recalled for vendor cataloging music projects.

CDs and scores to be cataloged are kept on Ray’s shelves in order of receipt, and are cataloged on a first in-first out basis.
