Unnamed conferences for Barker

Unnamed conferences for Barker will be classed together when they are clearly ongoing, i.e. title followed by year or number, or the exact same title from one year to the next. In other cases, where there is not as clear a pattern of unnamed conferences, catalogers will not attempt to class these together (see the examples below). Although some of these may appear to be ongoing as well, no attempt is made to class these by subject at the sub-conference level – the sub-conferences (or subtitles) are not followed by a year or number, and the wording often changes slightly over time. Class together at the higher level, with work letters as needed.

At first glance, this may seem to be an example of an ongoing unnamed conference because the two items have very similar titles. However, because there are in fact some differences in the title, catalogers should not class these together. Such slight differences in title may indicate a shift in subject over time, as in this case. Rather than agonize over what constitutes "ongoing," catalogers should simply consider unnamed conferences as separate when a title, not followed by a year or number, doesn't match an earlier one exactly. Class by subject area.
