Announcements
- Welcome to Remlee Green, a new member of RISG from ESL.
Adding Minutes to the RISG Wiki
- Remlee demonstrated how to post content to the the RISG Wiki.
- Discussion followed as to whether meeting minutes recorders should post minutes directly to the Wiki for members to or continue the practice of circulating minutes amongst ourselves before posting them on the Wiki.
- It was decided to continue circulating minutes amongst ourselves before posting them.
Next Steps in the Awareness of Subject Pages
- A report will be drafted detailing our individual findings about the academic community's current awareness of subject pages (20%) and setting a goal of increasing overall awareness to 50% in the next three years.
- Anita Perkins will write the draft of the report and send to RISG for feedback.
- After the draft is reviewed by RISG, Peter will bring to PSLG
Discussion of Bibliographic Software and RISG
- A new web guide has been created to provide an overview of bibliographic software, along with a new page for Zotero. Remlee will send out drafts of the pages for comments. This guide has a chart of information that can be useful for comparing products. The categories used for comparison could also be useful when looking at new products that come along. [Update: the pages are now live at http://libraries.mit.edu/help/bibliography/index.html.]
- The group discussed RISG's role in the discovery, evaluation, and promotion of bibliographic software. The Libraries currently support RefWorks and EndNote, with one overall expert, Howard Silver, but it would be a benefit for the Libraries to know more about bibliographic software overall. There are so many available programs that it would be very time-consuming and not productive to evaluate all of them. As RISG members learn of new programs that seem promising or are generating a lot of interest with users they should alert Remlee who can explore further.
